LEARNING A KEERTANAM

The Sadhana Gurukul follows different pedagogical methods to ensure learning is fun, wholesome and gradually encompassing. It follows a student based approach where cooperative and inquiry-based learning is encouraged. Our expeditionary learning involves “learning by doing” and participating in a hands-on experience. Students may participate in study lectures, learning expeditions, projects or choreography challenges to be able to apply knowledge learned in the classroom to the real world. The practical aspects are imbibed through kinesthetic learning and a gradual development of the body’s coping mechanism is expertly overseen.

Based on student investigation and hands-on projects, inquiry-based learning is a teaching method that casts a teacher as a supportive figure who provides guidance and support for students throughout their learning process. Teachers encourage students to ask questions and consider what they want to know about the world around them. Students then research their questions, find information and sources that explain key concepts and solve problems they may encounter along the way. Students are encouraged to read various books based on their reading levels.

The students are often goaded to attend concerts of visiting performers. All students get to perform in various class productions regularly giving them early exposure to the stage. This helps in boosting their confidence, conditioning them to become better performers.

At the micro-level in the “teacher-learner” relationship, there is an active mix of traditional and innovative methods, combination of an activity approach with an energy-informational environment approach, cognition with constructivism and connectivism.

Sadhana’s staff members are all senior dancers who have completed their Visharad (BA level) and have a sound understanding of the subject matter. Guru Shumita Mahajan personally oversees the lesson plans of each batch and guides the trainers in the best approach to individual learners.
